Selling, networking and reinventing yourself
Selling is about relationships. This is the maxim that Scooteira Mônica Falcon defends in her work at Scooto. The São Paulo native is the mother of Alexandre and Amanda, and will turn 60 next year. Ten years ago, Mônica left the land of the drizzle to live in Aldeia – Beberibe, an environmental protection area located in Recife – PE.
The administrator works in pre-sales operations (SDR) at Scooto and tells us how her natural “stripping down” helps her connect with customers. “I always rely on conversation, I can’t sell in a plastered, scripted way. Often, the hook I need to get a feel for the customer comes in the form of a simple question: what’s the weather like there today?” she explains.
From a young age, Scooteira realized that she didn’t belong in the corridors of a multinational. At the age of 20, during her undergraduate studies in Public Administration, the São Paulo native joined CitiBank and was soon looking after the agency’s premium client accounts. “I realized that things weren’t going as fast as I wanted. All that bureaucracy wasn’t for me,” recalls Scooteira.
The saleswoman
It was at lunchtime, watching the now-defunct ShopTour in São Paulo, that Mônica nudged her work friend and said: “I want to work with that guy, doing that”. Mônica was referring to Luiz Galebe, the creator of the program that went around São Paulo’s stores announcing the main offers on television. On the same day, the administrator called the program asking for a job and soon resigned from the bank.
It didn’t take long for the young woman to take over the afternoon show alongside Galebe, which caused jealousy within the production at the time. Mônica says that because she was young, a woman and didn’t have a degree in journalism, she had to stand her ground so that her confidence wouldn’t be shaken. With the arrival and consolidation of the internet in Brazil, the program was discontinued after many years on air.
The entrepreneur
The presenter’s versatility has been proven once again during the pandemic. Like many people, Mônica saw her income dwindle in 2020 and had to reinvent herself. It was in her kitchen that Xêro Bom was born, an artisanal bakery that conquered the region and still receives daily orders.
It was in July 2021 that, after being recommended by a friend, Mônica joined Scooto. Before long, she was leading a team of Scooteiras in SDR operations, which is basically a lead activation service that Scooto offers and which has guaranteed excellent results for its clients.
At Scooto
In her work at the startup, Mônica highlights the need to carry the DNA of humanization and declares herself passionate about good stories. According to her, this makes all the difference in conducting meetings and absorbing the client’s culture, an important differentiator at Scooto.
Even when she’s working here, Mônica hasn’t abandoned the small screen. Currently, Scooteira participates, via the internet, in a daily newscast for a channel for Brazilian audiences in Massachusetts, USA.
