Autonomy
How would you define the word autonomy, within the context of remote work?
At Scooto, having autonomy at work means having the freedom to make choices, working without having every step controlled or breaks timed, and being able to self-manage in order to meet targets and deadlines. These are some of the definitions that Scooteiras find for the word autonomywhen it comes to remote working at Scooto.
But for Ana Fabrício, a scooterist from Rio Grande do Sul, this meaning goes beyond…
Who is Ana Fabrício?
A pre-sales scooterist born and raised in Três de Maio, a town in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, she has always enjoyed traveling and discovering new places. This passion for travel is shared with Glauber, her partner. Together, they embarked on the most incredible adventure of their lives: exploring the world in a motorhome. So far, they have covered around 30,000 km in Brazil and 10,000 km between Chile and Argentina.
Ana, who forand 5 years was the owner of 2 companies, you’ve never identified with inflexible routines and plastered jobs, the kind where you can’t take a step without your boss questioning what you’re doing. Having autonomy to manage their results and freedom to make choices have always been latent needs in his heart.
Right away, we can see why Scooto and Ana were a match, can’t we?
How it all began...
It was after returning from a backpacking trip between Brazil, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina in 2016 that Ana fell even more in love with the idea of exploring new places. So, determined to take a gap year and travel the world, she began to prepare herself financially. It took four years of hard work and saving until, in 2020, in the midst of documentaries and series about travel, Ana discovered the motorhome and fell in love with its style. #vanlife style (living in a car, constantly on the move).
So the idea of a new backpacking trip fell by the wayside and gave way to a new phase for the couple. Ana and Glauber decided to buy a Sprinter, eager to experience life on the road. Within a few months, the car conversion at home, done by an acquaintance of the couple, was ready. The Sprinter then became Ana and Glauber’s motorhome.
The time has come! With the motorhome ready to go, the couple said goodbye to their companies, house, furniture, crockery, clothes and anything else that wouldn’t fit in the van and, in January 2021 , they set foot on the road. From January to December, Ana and Glauber explored every region of Brazil.
There was still something missing...
In the midst of her daily travels, Ana started using social media to work, producing content for her Instagram account, @bemnaestradabrand videos for her YouTube channel. What was supposed to be a sabbatical year became a year of hard work, since it was in producing content that she found a way to monetize this experience and, what’s more, serve as an inspiration to those who dream of living it too.
But even though she was living her dream life on the road and managing to maintain her financial stability, there was something missing. Ana, who had always enjoyed business management, teamwork and dealing with people, realized that she wanted to use more of her potential and skills.
Thus, a pain was born: no company will have flexible to believe that it is possible to achieve results living in a van.
That’s what she thought until, while listening to a Primo Rico podcast, she went back to her hometown to celebrate the holidays with her family, Ana met Scooto.
The meeting between Ana and Scooto
A 100% remote company that employs only women? It’s one of those things you can only believe when you see it, and when you see it, you almost don’t believe it.
Ana believed it and, at the foot of the Lanin volcano in Argentina, where it was about -5° outside the van, chatted to Marina Cantino, who is part of Scooto’s People team, about the opportunity to be a Scooto SDR (Sales Development Representative).Sales Development Representative).
Ana embraced an SDR operation and, in May 2022, became a Scooterist. Since then, she has worked on two pre-sales operations and has been delivering excellent results.
Finally feeling happy and fulfilled with her lifestyle and work routine, Ana defines the autonomy of remote work at Scooto as being able to enjoy her freedom and live her dream of seeing new places, while meeting her goals and continuing to grow and learn.
Ana feels that, at Scooto, she has autonomy to manage her work and freedom to do it from anywhere, which makes her work much more motivated.
Today, Scooteira works in a 4-hour operation and is already planning to return to the countries she visited during her backpacking trip. But this time in her home on wheels and, of course, with Scooto on her laptop.
Curiosities
What’s the internet like in the motorhome?
In life (somewhat unusual) on wheels, you need to be able to cope with the unexpected, which Ana has plenty of.
Scooteira says she has SIM cards from different operators in Brazil, Argentina and Chile, as well as a modem inside the motorhome. But when she can’t get a good internet connection, she works in supermarket parking lots, tire shops, gas stations, snack bars and wherever else there’s Wi-Fi.
How do you reconcile travel, household chores and work?
Ana says that the household chores are done on “duty day”, which happens every week, where she takes care of the house, takes clothes to the laundrette, shops at the supermarket and fills up the van’s water tank. This way, she can prepare to spend the rest of the week working and defining her routes.
Ana also says that technology has helped her adapt to life in a motorhome. Today, she uses apps to discover new routes, find safe places to sleep and keep track of her finances.
